Switching from Copilot Money to Budgey
About 20 minutes, most of it automated. Here's the exact path from Copilot Money to a working Budgey budget.
Part 1 — Get your data out of Copilot Money
- 1
In Copilot on Mac, select your transactions and export them as CSV (File → Export).
- 2
Note your category list and any custom categories you created.
Part 2 — Set up Budgey
- 3
Create your free Budgey account
Sign up at budgeyapp.com or in the iOS/Android app. Onboarding takes about two minutes — BaoBot suggests a starter set of categories, and you can rename them to match the ones you had before.
- 4
Set your pay period
Tell Budgey how you get paid — weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Your budget periods will follow your actual paychecks, which is probably an upgrade over the calendar months your old app forced.
- 5
Upload your export to BaoBot
Open BaoBot and upload your CSV, Excel, or PDF file (file uploads are part of Budgey Unlimited). It reads each transaction's description, amount, and date, matches categories by name, and imports the lot — and any import can be undone with one message.
- 6
Connect your banks (optional, recommended)
With Budgey Unlimited, connect up to 3 banks or cards via Plaid. From then on, new transactions land in your Review Inbox with AI-suggested categories — you approve each one, and your budget stays current without typing.
Switching from Copilot Money: your questions
Does Copilot Money work on Android?+
No — Copilot is iPhone, iPad, and Mac only. Budgey runs on iOS, Android, and the web with one budget synced across all of them, which matters especially for shared budgets in mixed-platform households.
Which has better AI, Budgey or Copilot?+
They apply AI differently. Copilot uses it for transaction categorization. Budgey uses AI for categorization suggestions too (in the Review Inbox), but also gives you BaoBot — a full conversational assistant — AI receipt scanning, and an MCP server so Claude, ChatGPT, or any agent can manage your budget.
Is Budgey cheaper than Copilot Money?+
Yes. Budgey Unlimited is $10/month or $100/year versus Copilot at roughly $13/month or $95/year — and Budgey has a free-forever plan, while Copilot offers only a trial.
