Switching from Rocket Money to Budgey

About 20 minutes, most of it automated. Here's the exact path from Rocket Money to a working Budgey budget.

Part 1 — Get your data out of Rocket Money

  1. 1

Rocket Money allows transaction export (CSV) for premium members — grab it if you have premium.

  2. 2

Otherwise, download CSVs from your banks directly for the history you care about.

  3. 3

List the subscriptions Rocket Money found for you — recreate them as recurring transactions in Budgey so every period accounts for them.

Part 2 — Set up Budgey

  1. 4

    Create your free Budgey account

Sign up at budgeyapp.com or in the iOS/Android app. Onboarding takes about two minutes — BaoBot suggests a starter set of categories, and you can rename them to match the ones you had before.

  2. 5

    Set your pay period

Tell Budgey how you get paid — weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Your budget periods will follow your actual paychecks, which is probably an upgrade over the calendar months your old app forced.

  3. 6

    Upload your export to BaoBot

Open BaoBot and upload your CSV, Excel, or PDF file (file uploads are part of Budgey Unlimited). It reads each transaction's description, amount, and date, matches categories by name, and imports the lot — and any import can be undone with one message.

  4. 7

    Connect your banks (optional, recommended)

With Budgey Unlimited, connect up to 3 banks or cards via Plaid. From then on, new transactions land in your Review Inbox with AI-suggested categories — you approve each one, and your budget stays current without typing.

Switching from Rocket Money: your questions

Is Rocket Money a real budgeting app?+

It has budgeting features, but its core product is subscription cancellation and bill negotiation (it takes a cut of negotiated savings). Budgey is a budgeting-first app: pay-period budgets, transaction review, goals, reports, and an AI assistant.

Does Budgey track subscriptions like Rocket Money?+

Yes — recurring transactions are first-class in Budgey: set them once and every budget period accounts for them automatically, and you will see them in your reports. Budgey does not cancel or negotiate on your behalf, though.

Which is cheaper, Budgey or Rocket Money?+

Rocket Money premium can start lower ($6/month on its sliding scale). Budgey Unlimited is $10/month or $100/year and includes bank sync, unlimited AI (BaoBot + receipt scanning), reports, shared budgets, and MCP agent access. Budgey's free plan is a real budget; Rocket Money's free tier is mostly account tracking.
